Artist's Comments

I've decided that I need to start using other mediums instead of graphite all the time. This is my first coal portrait. I really find it harder to use then graphite but I'll definitely use it again.

The reference is from  and this is the photo I used : [link]

Materials: 2B,4B,6B coal, coal powder, white coal, sharpies

Hope you like it :)

Thank you very much. I was really afraid how is this gonna turn out since I have so much to learn about charcoal. I find graphite way more easier to use. Thanks you for the fave also. I really appreciate it :)

Great job Sinzi! Beautiful likeness, contrast and details (especially in the eyes)I was trained doing portraits and figures using charcoal ritmo 'B' pencils at Watts Atelier of the Arts. What kind of pencils are you using, paper and how big is this piece?
While I'm peppering you with questions, are you recieving any formal training or looking into art schools?

Thanks Aricson. I'm using Geberal's coal. That's the only one I found at a store nearby and the paper is Bristol Vellum. The piece is a bit bigger than A4. I never received any formal training for portraits and what you see in my gallery. I did take some drawing classes but for architecture. And I will go into interior design. Not exactely an art school but close

Interior design is a smarter choice over art in a four year university or college over art. But if you are interested in getting some formal art training you may want to look at these Canadian ateliers(gallery/schools): in Toronto:[link]

and in Montreal: [link]

I'm not suggesting that your work needs training, but having mentors in an art program is incredibly valuable and you'll no doubt learn a lot.

Perfect! You are an amazing artist. Your choice of images is very unique, and it keeps me looking forward to what you're gonna do next.

The problem with immediate gratification is that it takes too long.
